Tsvangirai: A deviant in government!
Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai has reflected little talent in leading the nation efficiently. Zimbabweans thought he was coming along with new strategies that would rescue the nation. Its twenty-seven (27) months since he joined government, but he has achieved no visible benefits yet. He ignored the important component which is enshrined in the Global Political Agreement (GPA) which would have given him dignity, that is, removal of sanctions.
By consenting to GPA, Tsvangirai asserted an obligation to ensure that all restrictive measures and illegal sanctions are lifted in order to facilitate sustainable solutions to the challenges that are facing Zimbabwe, as well as ending international isolation.
Tsvangirai should take the lead on the removal of illegal sanctions bedevilling Zimbabwe because he was an active accomplice and proponent in their enactment with his western callous backers. Therefore, if he was sincere and committed to the provisions of the GPA which brought him into the inclusive government, he should act pro-actively to campaign for the unconditional crushing of the illegal sanctions by his confidants resident in the UK and USA.
His approach is a betrayal to his terms of entry into the inclusive government. What an unfaithful partner in government who lies to the nation? He never put even a split inch of effort to lobby against the illegal sanctions robbing the nation of comfort despite numerous national resources which include diamond reserves which constitute over 30% of the global diamonds which are denied sale on the global market. The sale of this precious mineral is being blocked owing to the economic embargoes unjustly imposed upon us.
Zimbabweans are saying, "Sanctions must go now!" Tsvangirai goes behind everyone's back and says, "Keep them intact!" This went public when USA leaked these shoddy deals to the whistle-blowing site wikileaks in the recent past. On this site Christopher Dell, a former USA ambassador to Zimbabwe described Tsvangirai as, "a sleep-walker who needs someone to hold his hand when leading."
On February 11, 2009 in his inauguration speech, Prime Minister Tsvangirai said, "…Economic collapse has forced millions to flee the country seeking menial jobs, for which they are often overqualified but underpaid…….watch in despair as these flowers of our nation wilt and die…" These are outright symptoms of his high-pitched call for illegal sanctions.
He also asserted that, "I will work to create a society where jobs are available for those who wish to work….." Youths clapped their hands excitedly when he promised to create jobs for them. But regrettably, since then, no jobs have been created because the illegal sanctions are air-tight as industry is facing a decline in a country where unemployment is hovering at over 80%.
His Finance Minister Tendai Biti and the Public Service Minister Elphus Mukonoweshuro, worsened the unemployment situation by freezing posts in the public sector. Government is the major employer in Zimbabwe. What this means is that, all school leavers, college and university graduates have nowhere to work. They are flashed into streets. This is mockery to our educational system which is competitive in Africa.
As long as economic embargoes remain, Tsvangirai remains a hypocritical leader for Zimbabwe. The unemployed, workers, students/pupils and ordinary citizens should view Tsvangirai as a devil flashing their hopes down into a sewerage drain.
The few with jobs are robbed of their labour as Tsvangirai's obstinate and selfish Finance Minister Biti is adamantly denying to award civil servants living salaries. Tsvangirai made a loud lie to civil servants that he was going to hike their pay. He also made a strong appeal to Zimbabweans in diaspora to rush home so that they can also rejoice high false-salary hikes from this disciple of imagination.
This illusionary personality frustrated teachers as they still languish in abject poverty. Their salaries are about 150% below the poverty datum line which is currently tagged at US$502 against their meager US$200 monthly salary.
But Tsvangirai claims to be a trade unionist who champions employee welfare. MDC also claims to be a labour party which implies that workers are their prime concern, and reciprocally their source of support. How can a labour party abuse its support-base by depriving them the right to decent remuneration?
