A political commentator Mlungisi Dube has said while he appreciates that the liberation struggle was fought for the country.

"While we real appreciate the contributions made in the liberation struggle, a lot of Zanu PF history is exaggerated," he said. "To start with Zimbabwe was not won on the battlefield, it was negotiated of course after some war that targeted civilians more than Rhodesian Military targets, if truth be told the Zanla and Zipra forces never defeated the Rhodesian army at any convectional battle, it was the Rhodesian army that actual carried raids on Zanla and Zipra camps in Mozambique and Zambia."

He said these Zipra and Zanla forces were more competent in killing defenceless farmers and peasants arbitrary known as sellouts.

"They were also known for demanding sadza and huku, molesting and raping girls at their so called pungwes .Using the defenceless povo (civilians) as human shields," he said.

"I am also beginning to postulate why the 5th brigade was so easy to manipulate into killing cillians during Gukuruhundi, that's what happens if you train an army and they never see any action. They are just trigger happy and would be not easy to restrain. Don't misinterpret me, I am just saying let's be objective, a history of lies won't build a nation."
