Disabled Bulawayo family needs $1 200 for Popcorn project

A family of people with disability has appealed to the donor community and government for assistance to fund their popcorn making project.
In a letter wrote to Bulawayo24, John Munetsi Jemwa said they were looking for assistance of $1200 or Rand 18 000 to establish a Popcorn Marking Project.
He said they were a family with disability as he is visually impaired while his wife Vimbai Hove has a physical disability. He said they have a two year nine months old daughter Tasimbiswa Trish who was born with one eye and has visual problem and are staying at a well wisher's house in Pumula East.
He said the current accommodation was for a period of three years which is coming to an end in June 2016.
"We are looking for assistance to establish a Popcorn making project that will provide a source of income for us as a disabled family of three. We believe that disability does not mean inability and this statement has got a comprehensive meaning to disabled persons with a better vision to sustain their lives independently," Jemwa said in his letter.
"We have a vision of a project which is true satisfaction. Our vision is to satisfy human wants as far as the provision of quality popcorn is concerned. The project will operate all year round and will will provide all income need for our daily living child treatment and of building our on home."
Jemwa said they need the funds to purchse gas double popcorn Making Machine with a Mobile trolley R7000, gas cylinder 19 kg R1000, Popcorn corn for R4000 for 250kg, Cooking Oil 150Litters R1800, Popcorn packaging for R2500 Popcorn Balls X-mas popcorn bowl Birthday popcorn bowls Gourmet popcorn enamel bucket Caramel ball Cauldron/Tin Mixed colour surprise basket Buttered - normal movie type Crazy Frog popcorn Low Fat and Low Salt Plain Salted In South Africa: Salt and Vinegar, Biltong, Mushroom, Braaivleis, Sour cream etc.. Gourmet: Butterscotch Chocolate Covered Cherry Milk Chocolate Caramel Strawberries & Cream White Chocolate Caramel.
He also said part of the money would be used in transport bus fare which amounts to R700 Luggage R1000
"We are going to sell the Popcorn around Bulawayo and also at Harare Agricultural shows annual events," he said. "Schools, Hospitals Sport events and public gatherings Church fund raisers, Gyms Restaurants, Supermarkets/shops Flea markets, Farm stalls, kids parties Tourist spots, Exhibitionss, Fairs Game shops, Video rental shops Taxi ranks, Police stations, Bus terminals, Railway stations."
Jemwa said they will be taking advantage of coming events such as the Annual Zimbabwe International Trade Fair, Soccer matches, school sporting events, Political and church gatherings to sell their product.
"The project has a very high turn over and is disability friendly and has a great potential to drive us to greater heights and raise enough income to sustain us as a family of three disabled," he said.

In his project proposal he states that its Mission is to provide the best popcorn of high quality test and product which shall guarantee quality test that satisfy customers all the time and its Vision is to satisfy customers wants as far as the provision of high quality testy popcorn is concerned.

"There Intokozo Popcorn Making Project is a family project of two disabled persons whose fate rate on special achievements. One of achievements is the establishment of this profit - making project. The project is going to benefit the beneficiaries and the public," reads part of the proposal.
"Intokozo Popcorn will be sold at the point of the Popcorn Making machine. The machine will be taken to schools sport events, public gatherings, Church functions, Restaurants, Supermarkets/shops, Flea markets, kids parties, Tourist spots, Exhibitions, Fairs, Taxi ranks, Bus terminals and Railway stations."
The proposal further state that competition will come from informal traders as they operate at will.
"Intokozo will have an advantage over other traders as it will run product promotions and sell high quality popcorn with high quality test.Our customer is anyone who likes popcorn in the streets in cars and travellers and soccer fans and gathering of huge multitude etc," reads the proposal.
It states that its objectives are to be one of the best popcorn making project of high quality test and become an excellent popcorn provider and the grant will be used to fund the purchasing of equipment and goods which are popcorn making related.
The proposal states that project's weakness is that it is heavily constrained in terms of finances and if the current financial problems continue without capital interaction the project will fail to take off.
