NAFAZ is the future, declares Chiyangwa

THE National Football Association of Zimbabwe took a major step towards full operations with the appointment of standing committees. NAFAZ President Phillip Chiyangwa described yesterday's events as "another clear sign that Zimbabwean football is moving towards much better times." "There are people who want to throw spanners into the works but we are not losing sleep over their actions," he said.
"What we have done since the day we decided to dissolve Zifa is above board, Fifa are being briefed of every step and last week the Sports and Recreation Commission indicated that they will be registering NAFAZ. "The creation of these standing committees means that we have in place structures that ensure that the game is administered in line with world soccer governing body standards."
Chiyangwa said the new soccer governing body's interim committee , which also has Omega Sibanda and Premier Soccer League boss Peter Dube as the vice presidents and Philemon Machana handling the finance portfolio, is ready to leave the day to day running of the game to a well staffed secretariat.
Respected administrator Kenny Ndebele will soon be confirmed as the NAFAZ general secretary and his first task will be to recruit personnel after former Zifa workers were asked to reapply for their jobs.
"Look here there was an anomaly whereby the association president was reduced to being some sort of a chief executive because he was heavily involved in the day to day running of the organisation, every decision had to pass through him," said Chiyangwa.
"That will be a thing of the past; the board is there to shape policy while the general secretary and his team oversee the day to day running of NAFAZ.
"Kenny Ndebele has a proven record as an administrator and we believe that he is the man who can put in place a secretariat that will take Zimbabwean football forward. "Efforts are also underway to appoint a new technical adviser and the name of this individual should be made public sometime during the week.
"A technical adviser is a key individual in our set up because there is no football to talk of without the players. Right now we are all excited about qualifying for Gabon 2017 but I am very much aware that the boys we have now, your Musonas, Khama, Muroiwa and others cannot play forever.
"There is need to ensure that the next generation of Warriors is identified and nurtured."
