Easipark dissolved in Harare

Harare Residents Trust has revealed that the EasiPark which was dealing in the Haraere City has been dissolved as the City parking has a new board.
"EasiPark is now dissolved. City Parking has a new board which is comprised of Councillor Peter Moyo (Ward 13, Rugare, Lochnivar, Southerton) who is chairman Business Committee, Councillor Kufahakutizwi (Ward 21, Mabvuku and also vice chairman Business Committee), Gloria Mawarire, an outsider who is a lawyer, and the Town Clerk. The City Parking board has not yet met," said the trust.
"Reports from Town House indicates that Josephine Ncube, the Acting Town Clerk has come under fire from some councillors who were very much involved with EasiPark like Hebert Gomba (Ward 27, Glen Norah B), Wellington Chikombo (ward 28, Glen Norah A) who were heavily involved in the recruitment of most of the senior employees, disregarding council recruitment processes."
The trust said accusations against Ncube are that she is demanding that City Parking should cease to be a private entity outside the control of the City of Harare.
"She reportedly wants City Parking to be directly under the City of Harare so that the City Treasurer has direct control of the finances, unlike the current situation where the City Parking has a board, and a bank account under the control of other people and not the City of Harare. This situation deprives the council of directly benefiting from its parking infrastructure, and benefiting a few individuals. Very little is being remitted to the City Finance from City Parking, which gives councillors rich pickings from allowances and other benefits, on top of their monthly council allowances," said the trust.
"The HRT believes that the City of Harare should dissolve all strategic business units established during the era of ousted Town Clerk Dr Tendai Mahachi because all the strategic business units are making money that is not finding its way into the coffers of the Harare City Council."
The trust said one of the leaders in the Sunshine Holdings, Alois Masepe, who resigned from the City of Harare to become the Chief Executive at the Sunshine Holdings, the holding company for the strategic business units, have now created another entity within the City of Harare that is independent of the council, yet owned by the Council.
"This scenario makes the Acting Town Clerk and the whole Council bystanders while some few councillors, who sit on these external boards make huge sums of money as board members. It is because of this situation that the HRT urges the Harare City Councillors to make another resolution dissolving these strategic business units in order to bring everything under the City of Harare so that it has total control of its affairs, and not have a few individuals like Masepe and a few councillors running their business within the Council," said the trust.
