Motorists complain over parking fees

Harare Residents Trust has reported that motorists in Harare believe the one dollar being charged by City Parking is way too expensive, and should be reduced to reflect the economic situation in the country.
The trust said the Business Committee and the Finance and Development Committee of Harare City Council should look closely into this issue, and listen more to the concerns of citizens.
"The most unfortunate part to the City Parking arrangements is that it is considered a private business, which only benefits individual councillors and officials instead of the whole council," said the trust.
"The City Treasury has for a very long time not received any money from City Parking. The EasiPark has invested in Ghana to provide parking services, yet there is very little known about this deal, and how money generated from there is coming into the City of Harare coffers. Yet officials in the City Parking and City of Harare know everything."
The trust said councillors are being used as place holders, endorsing business deals they know very little about, and the tragedy of it all is that the councillors no longer believe that they should get their mandate from the electorate.
"They have assumed total independence from the electorate, and now do what they please at Town House on behalf of residents. This must stop!" said the trust.
