POLICE were called in when a 14-year-old Sikhulile High School pupil was busted by the school's security guard watching blue movies with friends on a phone.
After questioning, the girl whose has been name withheld for ethical reasons, revealed that the phone belonged to her sister's boyfriend.
She said she had borrowed it to capture images which she wanted to show off to her friends.
The pupil's confession led to the arrest of Ntandoyenkosi Prayer Mathe (23), the owner of the phone.
Mathe, who resides in Old Magwegwe Suburb, appeared before Western Commonage magistrate Mr Stephen Ndhlovu and was charged with possessing censored content.
Prosecuting, Tony Kamudyariwa said: "On July 26 this year, at around 6PM in Magwegwe suburb, the young girl approached the accused and asked to borrow the phone to go and take pictures at school.
"Mathe gave his Vodafone tablet to the minor knowing that it contained indecent pictures and videos but did not bother to put a security code on the files."
Sentencing, Magistrate Ndhlovu said: "You have exposed 14 year olds to indecent material, what will they learn from that? Now these children are going to experiment because by nature children tend to copy what they see and you have exposed them to it. You are promoting moral decadence."
"I will give you a custodial sentence. You will serve an effective six months in prison," said Magistrate Ndhlovu.
