Since day one Buy Zimbabwe's strength and relevance has been built on strategic relationships and now as we inch closer to the Buy Zimbabwe Week we have seen civic society jumping onto the Buy Zimbabwe bandwagon represented by the Church.

The Church, which is undoubtedly the largest single constituency in the country, has taken the pledge to Buy Zimbabwe and save a job and has thus determined to take the message to the people through the beautiful art form of choral music.

During this year's Buy Zimbabwe Week Promotion the country will witness church choirs from the Methodist Church in Zimbabwe, United Methodist, AFM, Udaciza Harare and Salvation Army, among others, visiting local companies to use their music to create awareness among staff members on the Buy Zimbabwe campaign.

The choirs will also be part of the Buy Zimbabwe road shows that shall be taking the Buy Zimbabwe message, and indeed the excitement of the week-long promotion to the consumer. Thanks to the Federation of Choral Music in Zimbabwe, the nation has come up with a musical interlude that will allow consumers to digest the complexities of Buy Zimbabwe through catchy tunes that will make the consumer's shopping experience across various shopping malls and retail outlets unforgettable this festive season.

Bring this together with the exciting prizes and giveaways during the Buy Zimbabwe Week Promotion then you get a power-packed Christmas shopping period. From Monday November 28 to December 2 2011 the country will be gripped with massive promos and spot prizes, while December 3 will culminate in lots of grand prizes delivered by the country's great brands right across Zimbabwe. While all these prizes might be charming to loyal consumers, I believe that it is the idea that such a promotion will go a long way in creating the desired multiplier effect that will assure Zimbabwean more jobs that should be more appealing.

This year's Buy Zimbabwe Week Promotion runs under the theme, "Buy Zimbabwe, Save a Job".

While the main purpose of the Buy Zimbabwe Promotion is to aggressively showcase leading local brands and ensure that these compete favourably on the local market, the promotion also seeks to utilise the festive period as a time to reward consumers for their faithfulness.

Buy Zimbabwe Promotion objectives include:

Promoting increased consumption of quality Zimbabwean goods.
Showcasing and raising brand recognition on quality Zimbabwean products and services.
Acquainting customers with new and re-launched local products.
Rewarding consumers through prizes and gifts.
Strategically promoting local brands through leading retailers.
Increasing consumer confidence in the formal retail and financial systems.

Not only does this promotion allow consumers to make huge savings on their Christmas shopping but it is also an opportunity for lucky consumers to win big through the various hampers, spot prizes and grand prize extended by the Buy Zimbabwe partners.

This year's grand prize of an amazing refrigerator has been kindly sponsored by Capri, one of the country's leading manufacturers of quality refrigeration both commercial and household. Buy Zimbabwe Week Promotion prizes will be won during the numerous road shows that will be held across the country, in-store and through phone-in sessions on radio. This week has been designed to ensure that consumers benefit for their loyalty towards local products.

The Buy Zimbabwe Week Promotion is, however, not only about the consumers alone, but also about local businesses themselves and Government. It will be an opportunity for us to encourage businesses and Government to buy local because they can immediately realise the benefits.

In my previous contribution I mentioned a suggestion I received from a managing director of one of our Buy Zimbabwe partners who suggested that companies should start giving incentives for buying from each other. To me that was the best suggestion I have had in years primarily because it came from a man who was ready to lead by example. Once we create an economic spider web, we ensure that we capture as much resources in the country as possible. Circulating in Zimbabwe, we grow jobs, increase the workers' propensity to spend, stimulate higher sales of local products and massage our economy to be tougher not only on the subcontinent but across the world.

Go Zim Zim . . . May the Lord bless us abundantly.
