The People's Democratic Party (PDP) notes with great concern the lack of preparedness on the part of the Zanu PF government in dealing with the floods resulting in scores of people drowning while livestock and property have also been lost.
The unfolding sad development across the country where lives have been unnecessarily lost shows how the government has no care for the citizens.
The PDP has received shocking details of how people have drowned while property and livestock have been swept in floods as the government has not put in place systems to deal with the incessant rains.
Currently nearly 100 families in Tsholotsho, Matabeleland North have been marooned since Saturday as the government fails to rescue them to safer places.
Reports also indicate that Civil Protection Unit (CPU) only has been using one air force helicopter in when corrupt and heartless politicians like Grace Mugabe are using up to four helicopters to attend rallies just to spew hate speech and sow divisions.
Government ministers especially local have been misleading the nation to painting a picture to the effect that everything is under control but the truth is that the government has no emergency rescue strategy in place leaving the lives of millions of people at a risk.
Zimbabwe's government is dominated by mediocrity, false and corrupt personalities with huge egos, hubris, arrogance, individualism, selfishness and crony capitalism.
The government focus must be on procurement of proper tents, health, water and sanitation facilities.
As a result, the PDP urges the government to declare the flood situation a national disaster and appeal for assistance from international disaster and relief organisations.
The failure by the government and local authorities in rehabilitating roads has also resulted in most of the roads becoming impassable and are now death traps with potholes being the order of the day.
It must ensure that there is proper sanitation and camping facilities as recommended by the CPU and ensure that the temporary camps do not create spaces for perpetration of violence, rape and other atrocities.
