Mopane Foundation International is calling all individuals, businesses and all community groups to support the Nkayi Kids' South African Science Competition Trip Financial Appeal by sponsoring their trip. We have only 14 days to make it happen. These kids are from one of the most remote areas of Nkayi at the same time they are Mopane Foundation International's 4 beneficiaries from Somakwilili Primary School in MatNorth that have been put through by the competition organisers Zimbabwe Science Fair along with other kids to represent Zimbabwe in the Northern Gauteng expo for young scientists in South Africa on 08/08/2017. We need at least £2000 to facilitate a 3 day trip although it would have been ideal to utilise opportunity if we could afford it financially and have them stay a few more days to explore different industries.
About the competition
The Zimbabwe Science Fair provides a research and technology inspired platform which encourages Zimbabwean students to come up with inventions, innovations and research projects to meaningfully contribute to the development of communities; and to advance Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Education.
We wish to make clear that this in NOT about Mopane Foundation International as a charity but about that rural Zimbabwean child who has been presented with a life-time opportunity for the first time in Zimbabwean history. In its 37 years of independence the region has never been presented with such opportunity. What makes it even more interesting is that all these kids are very underprivileged backgrounds 3 of them orphans and the other girl a carer to a disabled mother. None of them have ever left the village or had an opportunity to see the world with different eyes and this can be encouragement enough to birth a scientist or more out of these four.
This is the first time ever in this competition for children from rural Zimbabwe to be afforded such an opportunity. Also, this trip will inspire their peers to aspire seeing that the children like them can be afforded such opportunities. It is our aim to do everything within powers to get these souls access all possible opportunities other kids their age can access. Last year year's Zimbabwean girl won a scholarship in Columbia a few weeks ago and we wish these kids to get same opportunity. We cannot do it in isolation; can do it together. Join hands with us and lets make it happen starting with these 4.
These are the following students going to join other young scientists from Zimbabwe and South Africa in showcasing their innovative science projects at Expo.
How the money raised will be utilised?
Its two boys and two girls competing, therefore the protocol is teachers of both sexes accompanying them to Pretoria in South Africa, and 1 of the Mopane Foundation and 1 ZimScienceFair delegates along with them.
Coach or fare to and from SA, accommodation expenses (overnight stays in Bulawayo twice), 2 nights' accommodation in SA, car hire, money for their food and refreshments and other contingencies from the time they leave home.
1. Return Bus fares for 6 people to Byo to and from SA to Nkayi
2. Return Coaches Byo-SA with allowance for refreshments
3. Self-catering apartments
4. Transport (Car hire +Fuel) while in SA
