The People's Democratic Party joins the MDC-T, the Nyanguwo family and all the democrats in mourning the untimely passing of Mr Abisha Nyanguwo.
Mr Nyanguwo was a veteran trade unionist who demonstrated his commitment to the struggle for worker's rights, his death is at a critical moment in the history of unionism, it is a period in which many workers are losing their jobs due to massive deindustrialisation emanating from ZANUPF's mismanagement of the economy.
The struggle has lost a cadre whose input would be valuable in the struggle for restoration of the dignity of the working people as well as the promotion of decent work.
Abisha Nyanguwo served in various capacities in local unionism, his hard work saw him rise to become the coordinator of Southern Africa Trade Union Coordination Council (SATUCC).He also served as a coordinator at the International Labour Organisation in charge of Southern African affairs before returning to Zimbabwe to re-join local politics on a fulltime basis.
During this period Mr Nyanguwo served as a director of policy as well as the Chief of Staff at Harvest House the MDC Headquarters, many in the PDP family have history working with him during his time of service.
The struggle for political and economic emancipation of the Zimbabwean people in post independent Zimbabwe has been over a long time , during this period of a delayed transition many comrades of Abisha Nyanguwo's ilk have been lost.
The PDP just like everyone in the democratic contingent is indebted to the departed cadres, it is therefore imperative for those who remain to continue with the struggle until its logical conclusion.
Our country is drowning in economic decline, abject poverty, a crippling liquidity crisis and now a shocking inflationary situation in an environment with absent aggregate demand.
This cocktail of failures is coupled with hatred, indifference, fatigue and hopelessness. These are reasons why our party together with other democrats will continue with the struggle which Nyanguwo was part of.
We will fight to end the current fudge which has our country straddling from one crisis to another, radar-less, leaderless and clueless.
We honour the departed and celebrate their lives, they are our heroes aptly described in the words of John Gardner,
"The hero sees values beyond what's possible. That's the nature of a hero. It kills him, of course, ultimately. But it makes the whole struggle of humanity worthwhile."
May His Soul Rest In Eternal Peace.
