New Cabinet - Same old incompetent Zanu PF

The new old Cabinet announcement by the new old President Emmerson Mnangagwa has confirmed the MDC assertion that talk is indeed cheap. The grandiose promises made by Mnangagwa of reformism are coming to naught. As Zimbabweans we are once again painfully reminded that never does a leopard ever changes its spots. ZANU PF will always be ZANU PF. Like Mugabe ZANU PF just has to go.

We are seeing no departure from former President Robert Mugabe's wanton arbitrage, pillage and self enrichment. It is clear that the 'Jobs for pals' principle is deeply entrenched in ZANU PF's DNA, as evidenced by the recycling of deadwood into the new old cabinet, most of whom are individuals who over the decades have been tried, tested, failed and rejected for failing to deliver in Mugabe's cabinet that led to the spectacular collapse of the economy.

More worrying though is the fact that the master minds of the military coup against Mugabe and his G40 have simply replaced their military fatigues with civilian suits and remained in charge. The appointment of soldiers into cabinet teaches us that Mnangagwa's administration is indeed a military junta we always feared it would be.Thus from the G40 cabal straight into a military junta.

The retention of Lazaraus Dokora who in the previous government led to the near collapse of the education system reduces this whole cabinet into a joke. Wither our education system.

The near none representation of women and the total absence of young Zimbabweans in the new old cabinet is startling. The appointment of only 3 women in a 21 member cabinet is nothing short of an insult to the advancement of women equality and empowerment. The chauvinism displayed by the new President in this regard is not different from that of the former President whose cabinet was infamously gender biased.

MDC seeks answers from Mr Mnangagwa on why the national constitution continues to be so brazenly violated. Firstly, once again devolution provisions are totally ignored and we see Provincial Ministers of State instead of the implementation of the devolution provisions under which people were elected in 2013 into a Provincial devolved government. This continued brazen and deliberate violation of the national Constitution shows ZANUPF's utter contempt for the Constitution. There are also 8 Ministerial appointments of persons who are not Members of Parliament contrary to the Constitution which provides for a maximum of 5.

Clearly this is not a progressive government that inspires hope by any standard. It is still the same old, corrupt, incompetent Zanu PF system whose only mission is self-enrichment.

We reiterate our call to fellow citizens of Zimbabwe that they must get registered in their multitudes so that in next year's elections the whole Zanu PF system is shown the door, once and for all.
