Chaos in the health sector - PDP
05 Dec 2017 at 15:46hrs | Views
Yesterday an old look cabinet was restored into office by President Mnangagwa who blew an opportunity to restart, bring in new ideas and buy confidence from the Zimbabwean people.
The citizen has expressed in no unequivocal terms that the old look cabinet appointed by the President does not inspire confidence but reminds Zimbabwean of the bad old days of Robert Mugabe characterised by loyal henchmen who served no other purpose other than a narrow selfish agenda of self-aggrandisement and power retention.
It is the hate of this era and its culture which inspired Zimbabweans to march on the 18 of November 2017.Zimbabweans were seeking a paradigm shift from the dark past to a new dawn which is ironically facing an early sunset.
The appointment of shady and incompetent people like Obert Mpofu hit the nerve of Zimbabweans. Here is guy rewarded for appearing at the RBZ and vanishing into the night with diamonds only to defend himself through a letter infamously signed the "obedient son."
Lazarus Dokora who the PDP has previously described as the worst Zimbabwean Minister had to be dropped not only because of public outcry but his factional value to the new dispensation.
On the 18th of November Zimbabweans who marched in the streets expressed the desire to live long, live well and live happy.
Living well and long is a product of a healthy life, the reappointment of David Parirenyatwa shutters this dream.
Forget that the Southern region's biggest referral hospital Mpilo had no water for a whole week, a sad development which exposed millions of people who depend on the institution for salvation.
Now a nurse's demonstration was been witnessed at Chitungwiza hospital, this is a key institution which serves more than a million people from the dormitory city.
The issues at the centre of the protest are universal in all public health institutions, the corruption, unavailability of basic supplies like gloves, tubes, blades, linen and basic drugs including painkillers.
The point we make is that the chaos in the health sector will not be solved by the same person who was at the centre during the time of its creation.
He has also proved that he is a person of no integrity who chooses himself other than anything else, a recent case in point is when he was unprocedurally paid US$100 000 from PSMAS at a time when the medical aid was unable to pay the doctors who rendered services to its clients.
While the chaos in the health sector is a reflection of larger problems of fiscal misdirection, the appointment of questionable individuals only worsens the catastrophe instead of mitigating.
With many foreign governments and development agencies assisting with drug supplies and development programs meant to combat Malaria, Tuberculosis and administration of Antiretroviral Therapy the burden of the state is significantly reduced.
In a country where many competent individuals are stuck either at the World Bank or the United Nations surely the appointers could have done better in appointing a team leader who could bring sanity in our health sector.
