ZAPU To hold massive Africa Day Celebrations in the UK

At a ZAPU PEC meeting held in Leicester on 2 March 2013, the Arts and Culture department represented by its Secretary Ms Nokutula Ncube proposed that ZAPU holds a cultural event to mark/commemorate Africa Day and that the event adopts the 'edutainment' theme with the aim of educating and entertaining the audience.

When Nokutula Ncube was contacted on the 24 March 2013 regarding this event, she was able to expand and give an update. She stated that a committee of ten strong ZAPU members has been formed to plan and execute the plan with deadly efficiency. She pointed out that the committee involved individuals from branches, districts and PEC.

Ms Nokutula Ncube expanded and explained as follows: "For the benefit of those who were not at the meeting, the objectives of the festivities would be:
a)      To raise the profile of the party to both potential and existing members and hence boost membership.

b)      To contribute and be part of other Fund raising efforts for the party cognisant of the fact that its election season.

c)       Make the day a day to remember by providing first class and cutting edge entertainment to party members and its publics.

d)      Educate the youth and raise African cultural awareness among the youth who are constantly bombarded by Western culture that they find themselves growing in".

"It is envisaged that the following segments of the party will directly benefit from this event- Mobilising ZAWU, Youth organs as well as the Election Support Committee. In order for us to make this event a resounding success, ideas and suggestions from members and friends of the party are welcome.  Although this is a party organised event, but all Zimbabweans irrespective of party affiliation are welcome". Said Ms Nokutula Ncube.

The Africa Day event is tentatively pencilled down for the 1st June 2013 at a venue to be announced.
