Beloved Sons and Daughters of our Zimbabwe
Greetings in the name of freedom and democracy. In the name of the most
High God, the merciful and the compassionate I write to lit up the fire
of the long awaited non violent revolution in Zimbabwe.
For the past thirty - three years our people have been killed, raped, tortured, incarcerated and
their rights grossly violated and we stood aloof for a long time. As I write to you, a prominent human rights lawyer Beatrice Mtetwa is behind bars, four staffers of the Prime Minister's office are behind bars, Christpower Maisiri a 12 year old was burnt beyond recognition in Headlands, the villagers named out the suspects but noone was arrested or questioned over that. Peace meetings organized by the civil society are disrupted everyday by rowdy youths and terror groups who are appear immune to the law.
The police have shamelessly descended on organizations that are working tirelessly on making information accessible to marginalized by giving out radios simple radio receivers. This is a deliberate and a calculate assault on the liberties of the people of Zimbabwe. What it means is that there are leaders who are comfortable leading and uniformed, misinformed and muted population. This is a mockery to our democratic pursuits. Our government has failed to make information available to people and when it makes it available it will be bent on deceiving and misinforming. This is why we should not tire up on engaging various communities through innovative strategies like the radio receivers distribution exercise.
AGAINST A COMMON ENEMY.
This is a non-partisan movement which solicits the attention and cooperation of all pro-democracy individuals and institutions. It heralds an end to lip service and charts a new unique era of action in pursuit of consolidating as well as safeguarding democracy which, as we see it, is under siege.
Our work is more now than ever as we strive to take Zimbabwe to constitutionalism so that the lengthy efforts devoted to the writing of the new constitution may not be put to waste while we 'stand aside and look'. Zimbabwe is heading for potentially volatile elections and the need to preserve the vote and the voter is a task we should administer with the undivided attention it deserves if at all we have relevance to various constituencies we serve as civil society organizations.
We have spent so many years fighting against ourselves because of the love of power and material gains whilst our common enemy was re-strategizing. It's not because our enemy is clever but our efforts are divided, we are losing it out because of the 'divide and rule' strategy being used on us. Till when shall we blindly play in our enemy's hands? Our enemy is not an individual but a system. Yes a system of dictatorship, lawlessness and gross human rights violations. We invite all youths and young people who share this same pro-democratic vision with us to join this movement which we have named 'The Freedom Movement.' Yes we demand our freedom;
-Freedom of association
-Freedom to support and vote for a political party of our choice
without being beaten or forced to do so.
-Freedom of speech and freedom of the media.
-Free political activity in the country.
-FREEDOM AND REAL INDEPENDENCE.
We call upon the youths from all pro-democracy organizations
(political parties, CSOs, tertiary institutions etc) to join this non-
violent revolution and fight for a free Zimbabwe.
FOCUS OF THE FREEDOM MOVEMENT.
1) Joint Youth Rallies between youth leagues from pro-democracy
political parties and organizations.
2) Fight for full implementation of the Global Political Agreement.
3) Combining all the efforts of pro-democracy organizations,
institutions for credible elections scheduled for this year. (Unity of purpose for the democratization of Zimbabwe).
4) Retrieving the power from the politicians to the mass (povo). The
politicians are like fish and we (the mass) are the water.
5) A door to door massive First Time Voters registration campaign. 'If
you don't vote you are the problem in this country'.
6) Reviving the youth movement in Zimbabwe. They think it is impossible
but God the merciful will judge us if we sell our future in fear of
dictators and tyrants.
GETTING STARTED
All youths from pro-democracy organizations, political parties, tertiary institutions, will gather for the Youth Democracy Convention scheduled for May 2013 in Gweru to map the way forward for the movement and how best youths from pro-democracy organizations and parties can unite and jointly work together to democratize Zimbabwe in the coming do or die elections. Now is the time to 'REVIVE THE YOUTH MOVEMENT IN ZIMBABWE' and with your support it is possible.
