A poor rural primary school in Zimbabwe is set to benefit from the proceeds from a Zimbabwean nurse based in the UK whose book launch and fundraiser scheduled for 9 November 2013 in Bristol, UK.
Patricia Tsiga Chipungu is not a stranger to charitable work as she has supported orphaned children as well as widows in countries like Malawi and Ghana.
There is a fundraiser organised, which will be launched on the same day and proceeds from that and her book, Pick me up will be donated to fund the construction of a classroom block at a rural school in Zimbabwe.
They say charity begins at home and this says is all about Patricia Tsiga Chipungu, a Zimbabwean graduate nurse in mental health who like Florence Nightingale is kind and generous, stepping out to touch the lives of poor primary school children in Zimbabwe's rural Makwiro in Chegutu.
Even though she depends on a salary as a nurse and spends sleepless nights at work, she has taken a bold step like Oprah Winfrey and Madonna to build a school in Africa's poor rural areas.
She is moving away from a somewhat donor dependence syndrome where the diaspora expects others but the Africans themselves to bring development to their home countries.
Although appearing very small, this is one good example of what the diaspora can do in their home countries.
Instead of complaining, Patricia has committed to complementing government efforts to realise educational goals for poor and disadvantaged children, making her an ordinary women in the diaspora doing something extraordinary.
"After having being overwhelmed with a sense of wanting to raise money for the less privileged in the different charitable projects I am involved in, I felt strongly I could write a book which uplifts women whilst at the same time doing something charitable.
"Makwiro Primary school came into my heart. I am determined for the children to have a classroom block.
"Compared to what I have today and even access to education, I feel they deserve as much support. I have therefore appealed to friends to join me on the day", said Patricia Tsiga Chipungu, (Bsc Hons Mental Health Nursing) and currently studying Msc Public Health.
Her other published book, Working on review of efficacy of dialectical behaviour therapy for the treatment of borderline personality disorder is available on Amazon.
There is a big line up of speakers, guests and sponsors.
Muzvare Betty Makoni who has to date published and launched two of her books and a multi global award winner for her work to support girls' empowerment and education in Africa is guest speaker.
Other notable speakers expected to grace the occasion are women who have accomplished a lot in their careers and leadership and they include Spiwe Mahachi Harper, Fikelephi Jackson, Stephanie Chiyangwa and Fatima Sibanda and Director of Ceremony Lindy S Kula.
The Mayor of Bristol, Maria Adonis of the popular gospel choir Destiny, Upcoming new group called White Butterfly are all expected to grace the occasion.
Roy Mourton a renowned musician and pianist from the UK who helps on charity fundraising will play from his solo lists.
Patricia Tsiga Chipungu said: "There is so much negativity around us that as women, these negative forces tend to bring women to lose their sense of worthiness and confidence and lose hope.
"So I believe this book is set to uplift, empower, and give them hope and for them to realise their worth whilst at the same time giving us all confidence to step out of what we do to build our communities back home so that future generations of children will carry our legacy."
Zimbabwe government council gave nearly 10 000 hectares in a new site to build the whole school and even honoured its pledge to build two classrooms.
The plans for the school were drawn by transport4transport Chairman called Be van der Weide who has in addition pledged to double the donation through his connection as well as sending teachers and educational resources for a year.
His company have also assigned Alson Darikayi to oversee and handle the pledges from the Zimbabwe.
Transport4transport's Be van der Weide from the Netherlands is also attending and giving a presentation.
