The spirit of ZUNDE means everyone joyfully contributing their very best in their own way. The only expectation is that we respect our diversity and do the best we can. ZUNDE welcomes people from all walks of life. Whoever you are out there you can have a meaningful and fulfilling part in ZUNDE. It takes all of us; technocrats, social workers, builders, footballers, comedians or farmers, to rebuild Zimbabwe and make it a better place for all of us. So whoever you are and wherever you are based, come forth and lets rebuild our country.
In Zimbabwe we have been used to value academic achievements more than anything else. We were trained to serve other people who demanded of us nothing more than loyalty and servitude. We were brought up to believe that someone without 5 "O" levels including Mathematics and English is not even employable. In ZUNDE we believe it is not necessarily so. We believe in a society consisting of all manner of life choices. Some will choose to be academics, others professional workers while others may pursue sport, arts and entertainment. All these pursuits and many more will help us to rebuild our country and broken societies. They are all important. We seek an economy that provides a reasonable standard of living for everyone who works; including our parents who till the land in the rural areas.
Zanu PF did nothing to discourage segregation. The leaders cocooned themselves in luxury and, in order to exclude the majority, they reinforced the racists' segregationist policies of Rhodesia. Sensing that there was not enough to go round, instead of creating the wealth they devised ways of earning access to it. One had to have certain credentials to deserve a service, asset, privilege or right. They declared into poverty anyone without 5 "O" levels including English and Mathematics; they limited citizen rights to non-Zanu PF members including those that did not carry a gun in the liberation struggle and all those that opposed this setup as enemies of the state. Even chiefs were required to buy a Zanu PF party card if they were to qualify as chiefs! The task before us is huge. We are all equal and we need brave and selfless cadres who can break these evil chains from our necks.
We have attracted a number of technocrats on our team and we still need more. Currently our team demonstrates that we are not just dreaming but that we have the skills and experience to rebuild our broken country. It will take considerable know-how to rebuild our country that has been reduced to rubble by Zanu PF. Our schools, industry, economy and service delivery will require the best of minds to resuscitate.
Yet Zimbabwe is not just for technocrats. We need, even more critically, people who will be able to rebuild our broken society and relationships. This does not require rocket scientists, but people of good will and big hearts. It requires people who can inspire others in their communities. It requires courage for in fear thrives evil and oppression. If we are to rebuild this country, fear is not an option. It can never be wrong to do well and no jail can restrain a loving heart.
We need not leave any part of the country behind. We need people who are willing to unite our people based on substance and not false promises. We need to unite our people and not to tear the country apart. We need leaders who stand above tribal differences and develop every inch of this country and not just their regions. We want true unity and not domination; wealth should be shared equitably and service provided uniformly in all regions. Such is not the outcome of academic degrees but a loving heart that promotes relationships and not hateful competition.
We require chiefs who can rebuild communities, industrialists who can build an equitable wealth, clergymen who can reignite love and rebuild the morality that was once the glue that held us together as a people. We need women who care for the welfare of the nation. We are all born of a woman and we respect and uplift them. We welcome all women and we pledge to be gender sensitive. Their role will be to shape policy and lead and not wearing Zambia cloths and singing at the airport.
Zambia got over tyranny through the support of the beloved men and women of the uniform. The uniformed forces rose above partisan consideration and declared that they will serve the people and their government of the day than a small group usurping the national vital force. We cherish the uniform and those that put it on to protect freedom. We respect the security forces and welcome them in spirit. One we will shake hands and share the podium with them saluting our heroic past and welcoming a future of peace and prosperity.
We welcome youths who are patriotic and are ready to defend our freedom. The security and future of any nation is in its youths. It is they who defend the present while cherishing progressive change. They don't parrot slogans from old witches, but echo the wishes of the nation for the good of tomorrow. Such youths are welcome in ZUNDE.
Our grandfathers and grandmothers must know that we adopted ZUNDE from their teaching. They own ZUNDE and must come on board to show the young how it should be done. They are the custodians of our enduring values of fairness, accountability, inclusiveness and respect (FAIR).
In ZUNDE we are building a new nation based on the core values that have defined us since generations past. We will adapt these core values to the ever changing socioeconomic challenges of modern life and project them into the future to ensure we remain part of the global environment. The project is so important and bigger than anyone that we cannot do it best if we leave anyone behind. We have the challenge to break the barriers of racism, tribalism, status, Zanuism and sheffiism that has destroyed our country.
When you come to ZUNDE you claim your right to participate from day one. Your gender, tongue, tribe or race should not hold you down or ahead of others. You will appreciate that hatred and evil are a reproach to any people, that life is sacrosanct and we are happier all than as individuals. You will cherish sacrifice more than receiving and that the greatest joy is experienced in working for the good of others. Lastly you will understand what it means that God is love; that he who loves not does not know God.
If we unite under ZUNDE, joy and hope shall flow between our borders. But the fearful have no future for they are already dead. Love for freedom is only a threat to the evil.
