Police Must Stop Harassing Journalists: MDC PRESS STATEMENT
15 Jul 2011 at 14:50hrs | Views
The Movement for Democratic Change demands that the Zimbabwe Republic Police must stop the harassment and arrests of journalists immediately. The party is irked by the harassment of Nqobani Ndlovu, Pindai Dube and Oscar Nkala,Pamela Zithuso who were arrested today in Ntabazinduna, Matabeleland North.
We would like to remind the police force that this is not a police state and the media practitioners have a right to carry out their duties without harassment or intimidation.
We are disturbed that the continued harassment reflects badly on the image of our country, our police force and are a setback to the struggle for a just and a fair Zimbabwe. We call upon the responsible authorities to release them immediately, together with their equipment.
The MDC would like to reaffirm its undiluted commitment to the creation just and a fair Zimbabwe. Furthermore we call upon our partners in the inclusive government to be sincere on the implementation of the media reforms.
