The Unemployed Youth Organisation condemns in the strongest words the by Election for the constituencies that hail the expelled MDC Renewal members of parliament.

This call is against the backdrop of severe unemployment, under employment and the payment of salaries below the poverty datum line by the government and private employers

The youth in Zimbabwe makes the majority of the population. Therefore it is beyond the configuration of doubt that they are the worst affected by skyrocketing unemployment that is estimated above 90%. To hold a resource sapping by election when young unemployed youths are willowing in abject poverty is not only satanic but also intolerable.

It is estimated that the cost of the by-election for the 17 constituencies needs around $54 million. Blowing this amount in a period where millions have been blown for a birthday party is inhumane. Once elected the new members of parliament will need 17 new vehicles costing at least $20 000 each.

It should be placed on record without an prevarication or equivocation that UYO will mobiliz, educate and organise the unemployed youths to reject such continuous unscrupulous behaviour by the elite to continue prioritising meaningless political issues at the expense of the young generation.

The youths therefore doesnt need elections as of now. They need bread, they need education, they need a working health sector. We cannot eat ballot boxes and ballot papers. We therefore call for the Unemployed youths of Zimbabwe and the underemployed to resist the call for by elections when we are still captives of economic hardships. As a leading youth organisation for the unemployed we will not leave any stone unturned until and unless the government honours its constitutional duty to create employment for the 100% citizenry of Zimbabwe. We will not apologise, regret or turn back on delivering economic freedom to the young generation Economic Freedom In Our Lifetime.
