Pathisa Nyathi honoured

Sibanye Cultural Society a Botswana Based Organization held Its annual Culture Day dubbed "Imbizo YaMahlabezulu" over the weekend at Baobab Hall in Gaborone. The event which is a celebration of Ndebele culture through Music, Dance, Storytelling , Poetry and Food was attended by people from across Botswana ,South Africa and Zimbabwe.
The Highlight of the event was honouring Individuals who have contributed to the development and Preservation of Ndebele Culture as well as those who inspire a sense of pride in their fellow countrymen hence the award slogan "Siyaziqhenya Ngawe" .
Pathisa Nyathi received an honour for his extra ordinary contribution to the preservation of Ndebele History and Literature while Madinda Khathazile Ndlovu , Alexander Maseko and Lawrence Phiri were Honoured for their Legendery status in Football. Impumelelo Shining Stars and Zinja Ziyamluma were also awarded an honour for promoting and preserving traditional song and dance while Bulawayo Poet Dumisani Mhlanga also received the honour.
All the Recipients mentioned how touched they were to be recognized by their own people as it is not always the case. Pathisa Nyathi told the packed hall that People should be proud of their culture and know their roots, as that is the only way they can preserve their sense of identity for generations.
Speaking at the event the Chairperson of Sibanye Cultural Society Mr Decent Ngwenya Noted that as more and more children grow up in foreign countries they lose their language, both spoken and written and it is the duty of societies like Sibanye to create a sense of community and create an environment that fosters the correct ideals for their children, promote business networking as well as social welfare for their members in these foreign lands
Other activities of the day included a workshop for aspiring Ndebele writers in the morning as well as performances by Impumelelo Shining Stars, Zinjaziyamluma and Poet Dumisani Mhlanga .Pathisa Nyathi Presented a Piece which links Ndebele History and Royalty to the Formation of Highlanders while Highlanders Legends reminisced about their heydays.
