A violent altercation at Maninji business centre in Mayobodo has led to the arrest of Nyarai Mpofu, aged 34, and two accomplices following an assault on Mpofu Noliwe, a 24-year-old shopkeeper at the business centre. The dispute allegedly stemmed from a personal conflict involving the complainant and Ndlovu, the owner of a neighbouring shop.
According to court documents, the accused, who resides at DDF compound block 70 Mayobodo, confronted the complainant at around 1600 hours. Accompanied by her two sisters, who are still at large, Nyarai Mpofu reportedly held Noliwe by the collar, pressed her against a shop wall, and accused her of having an affair with Ndlovu.
The confrontation escalated when one of the accused withdrew a button stick and struck the complainant twice on the left shoulder. Another suspect attempted to stab Noliwe in the chest with a knife, but she managed to block the attack, resulting in a cut on her right palm. The accused then continued their assault, using button sticks and fists to beat the complainant.
Following the incident, Noliwe sustained multiple bruises and a deep cut on her palm. The matter was reported to ZRP Mayobodo, and she was referred to a hospital for medical attention. A medical report has been produced as evidence in court.
Authorities have confirmed that the case will proceed in court, with the accused facing charges of unlawful assault. The search for the two accomplices remains ongoing.
The matter continues on February 18.
