A 76‑year‑old Plumtree grandmother has been convicted after she assaulted a herdboy with a stick for allegedly allowing his goats to stray into her field.
Gertrude Ncube was sentenced to six months in prison by Plumtree magistrate Joshua Nembaware. The entire sentence was suspended on condition of good behaviour for the next five years.
Prosecutor Sheila Nyathi told the court that on 14 January, Ncube instructed the complainant to remove his goats from her maize field. When the herdboy later arrived at her home, Ncube allegedly pulled out a log and assaulted him all over the body.
The complainant fled and reported the matter to the police, leading to Ncube's arrest.
