A Zimbabwean transporter was allegedly assaulted by four suspected thieves at the Plumtree Border Post following a misunderstanding.
Police have arrested one of the suspects, Danisa Herijah (34), while his three accomplices are still on the run.
Herijah appeared before Plumtree magistrate Joshua Nembaware, who remanded him in custody to 3 February for trial.
Prosecutor Sheila Nyathi told the court that on 5 December last year, the complainant was driving his Toyota Noah from Botswana into Zimbabwe with the suspects on board.
Upon entering the country, the suspects accused him of transporting other thieves and stolen equipment from Botswana. They allegedly stopped the complainant and took turns to assault him.
