Zimdancehall musician Hulengende and his wife, Malloti, have been arrested shortly after performing at the Harare edition of the Doek and Slay event at Glamis Arena.

The arrest follows a series of allegations that the couple failed to honour scheduled performances after receiving deposits from promoters, while in other cases they allegedly arrived late or left audiences disappointed.

The complaints reportedly extend beyond Zimbabwe, with promoters in the United Kingdom also said to have experienced difficulties involving the pair.

Some promoters in other parts of the region have likewise reportedly suffered financial losses following alleged no-shows and delays.

The latest arrest is expected to intensify scrutiny of the couple's dealings with event organisers, particularly allegations surrounding performance commitments and advance payments made by promoters.

However, details of the charges against Hulengende and Malloti, including the circumstances leading to their arrest, were not immediately available.

The allegations have not yet been tested in court, and the couple remains entitled to the presumption of innocence unless proven guilty.

Further details are expected as police and other authorities provide information on the matter.
