Highlanders coach Benjani Mwaruwari missed his team's Chibuku Super Cup clash against Chicken Inn after being hospitalised with an undisclosed illness.
Mwaruwari was admitted to a local health institution earlier in the day and was subsequently unable to take his place on the bench for the Bulawayo derby.
Acting Highlanders chairman Kindman Ndlovu confirmed the development, saying the coach needed time to recover.
"He spent a few hours in hospital. He needs to rest and recover fully," Ndlovu said.
First assistant coach Mkhokheli Dube took charge of Highlanders during the encounter.
The club has not disclosed further details regarding Mwaruwari's condition, with the focus currently on allowing the coach to rest and make a full recovery.
