HOPE for Kids giving hope

Misheck Kugodah Mlambo explained what is Hope for Kids and how it operates to Mutare citizens on Saturday.
Speaking on a Whatsapp platform, Mutare Watch Mlambo said, "Hope for Kids is a community-based organization whose Head office is in Mutare. It started in 2015 and now employs 4 full-time staffers.
"We are a faith based organization, not aligned to a particular church but the Christian Faith.
"We currently have 724 students in primary, secondary, and tertiary education whom we fund through education grants. Education is our major program and our target population are the orphaned and vulnerable children.
We have kids in Chimanimani, Nyanga, Makoni, Chipinge (And 20 in Masvingo near Birchenough, 8 in Harare.) We have a general bias in Manicaland, and over 80% of our kids are in Mutare urban and peri-urban", said Mlambo.
Mlambo explained the criteria they use to come up with their beneficiaries of their programs.
"Community leaders like Councillors and Headmasters are key in identifying and agreeing on a list of the right people who needs much help.
"We also have community-based focal people, (some organisations can call them volunteers) whom we train often, they are in the project areas that we operate mainly in Manicaland", he added.
Besides paying fees for orphans and vulnerable children Mr Mlambo also added that Hope for kids also provides sanitary pads to the young girls and building houses for those affected by Cyclone Idai.
"Other programs like reusable sanitary pads distribution to girls, building houses for Cyclone Idai victims etc are simpler to identify beneficiaries, it is the orphans and vulnerable children we are most particular about", he said.
Hope for Kids is run by a board of Trustees/Directors on a policy level. According to Mr Mlambo the trustees meet every 3 months and receive a report from the Director. The management reports to the Board, no particular Patron or Benefactor.
