DIVINITY REVISION QUESTION |05 AUGUST 2016|

COMMENT OVERVIEW
 - The above pericope is extracted from Hosea ,Hosea might be new to some of us especially the lower 6 ,reading this commentary column will eye open you .Hosea prophesied during the prosperous days perhaps around 8th century .During the prosperous days ,injustice was prevailing among the Israelites ,some of the Israelites were known of stealing ,adultery, swearing and killing ,this is recorded in Hosea 4:2 .Such act was against the principles of Mosaic Covenant as Yahweh rejected them .The above extract also augment the view of B.W Anderson "message of Hosea is the optimism of grace" [You can use the point to execute the question]

ANSWERING THE GOBBET

 - The context of the gobbet is Hosea advising Israelites to repent and return to Yahweh. This occurred when Israel had been rejected by Yahweh for breaking the covenant. The form of the gobbet is the "ORACLE" for it is directly coming from the prophet .The pericope is extracted from J-SOURCE and there are elements of D -SOURCE because of the following reasons ,J-source in the sense that the name of the deity is in capitals LORD and D-source because there is punishment "TORN US..HE HAS STRICKEN". There is a message of hope as well, Yahweh will welcome them even though they disappointed him .Israel might have realized that the punishment was directly coming from Yahweh ,returning mean that Israel expected to be saved .The reason why Yahweh rejected Israel it was because of their actions ,this include stealing ,temple prostitution, swearing ,injustice and killing ,Hosea initially condemned Israelites for the above sins .
