- The writer today will focus in Gobbets ,the above verse is extracted from Jeremiah the prophet of Jerusalem who prophesied in the Southern Kingdom during the reign of different Kings ,to mention Josiah and Zedekiah only.
ANSWERS
- The context of the gobbet is Jeremiah delivering the message of hope to the Israelites as he was predicting that Yahweh will restore them and make a new covenant. This occurred when Israel was in exile under the Babylonian government. The form of the gobbet is an ORACLE for it is directly coming from a prophet. The source of the gobbet is J-source because the name of deity "LORD" is in capitals and the fate that the source glorifies Judah .The extract support the view that Jeremiah was pregnant of hope regardless that earlier chapters he was always harping on the theme of doom .Jeremiah predicts future and uses a messenger style of speech [criteria of distinguishing between true and false prophet], thus leading one to regard him as a true a prophet .Yahweh was going to introduce new covenant ,over the Mosaic covenant .[some scholars believe that the new covenant was introduced by Jesus Christ ,thus Jeremiah was predicting the Messiah]. N.B [Remember do not Christianize the Old Testament, the writer here is educating the reader thus why I included the text].
