Tsvangirai desperately seeking for votes
13 Mar 2017 at 05:09hrs | Views
Movement for Democratic Change leader, Morgan Tsvangirai who recently made headlines in some sections of the media for his tours around the countries' provinces has proved that he has nothing tangible to offer to the electorate as election time fast approaches.
From the look of things, people who used to follow Tsvangirai are no longer interested in him owing to his continuous election defeat. People are sick and tired of failed politicians like Morgan, who are only interested in enriching themselves at the expense of serving the needs of the electorate. Tsvangirai lost his grassroot support long back, hence attempting to revive it through his recent aimless tours.
Unfortunately, Tsvangirai's tours did not reap anything meaningful. Instead of inciting traditional leaders and war veterans to revolt against their leaders, Tsvangirai should have proffered solutions to the problems that are being faced by people in those different communities that he visited. His closed door meetings, press conference and rallies have all revealed that this opposition party leader is already in an election panicking mode. To make matters worse, all his gatherings did not disclose any issues that bring bread and butter on the tables of the electorate; instead he only attended to issues that deal with his own political advancement.
Whilst addressing journalists at his party headquarters in Harare recently, the former Prime Minister said he was commending a group of war veterans who were expelled from the ruling party; ZANU-PF in 2016. He imprudently claimed that this faction of freedom fighters had seen the light by turning against their patron. Truth be told, Tsvangirai's utterances are not genuine, but they are just words of a failed politician who is trying to gather support ahead of the next elections.
War veterans should not be swayed by Mr Tsvangirai's politics. The MDC-T leader never fought any war to liberate this country. In fact, the freedom fighters should resist from being used by this embattled leader. Tsvangirai knows that he lacks war credentials, hence trying hard to accommodate the expelled ex-combatants into his party.
Quoted in the private media, Tsvangirai said, "On behalf of the party I lead, the broad democratic movement and on my own behalf, I want to assure the war veterans, ex-detainees and restrictees that Zimbabwe sincerely welcome their joining the legitimate national demand for the institution of democracy, beyond mere liberation and political independence".
Casting a vote for a tired politician like Tsvangirai will be a waste of time and resources. The electorate should not be duped by Tsvangirai's sweet talk. It is on record that the ex-premier has a tendency of using people for his personal gains.
As it stands, Tsvangirai lacks proper campaigning strategy. What Tsvangirai knows best is to challenge other politicians who are doing well for the nation. Truth be told, there is indeed nothing wrong for First Lady, Dr Amai Grace Mugabe to donate food stuffs to the people who are needy during her meet the people tours. It is pertinent to note that there are some areas which were affected by El-Nino induced drought that requires Government's intervention. Instead of Tsvangirai calling for the arrest of First Lady in the press, he should take a leaf from the good works that is being done by Dr Mugabe.
Tsvangirai never ceases to amaze me. Each time he addresses either a press conference or a rally, he proves that politics is not his game. At times Tsvangirai should be careful with his political statements as some of them has already proved to be demise come election time.
A leopard will never change its spots so as some opposition leaders. It's true when they say history repeats itself. Tsvangirai's political history is tainted, which can be an indicator of his future woes. Unfortunately, the man never learns from his past mistakes. If he wishes to win any elections, Tsvangirai should avoid uttering reckless statements in the media.
