God performs miracles for a reason

And the priests that bare the ark of the covenant of the Lord stood firm on dry ground in the midst of Jordan, and all the Israelites passed over on dry ground, until all the people were passed clean over Jordan. Joshua 3:17.
At this time of the year - in the spring season - the melting snows of the mountains had so raised the Jordan that the river overflowed its banks, making it impossible to cross at the usual fording places. God willed that the passage of Israel over Jordan should be miraculous....
I have seen people whose rivers of problems overflows like the spring Jordan river! At some point they feel no need to pray because of the challenges they are faced with!
They however wish & wait for a miracle to happen without their involvement or participation!
The priests who bore the Sacred Ark moved steadily forward toward the angry, surging stream, till the feet of the bearers were dipped into the waters. Then suddenly the tide above was swept back, while the current below flowed on, and the bed of the river was laid bare....
There is need for one to bear his own Ark (cross) and follow Christ! Active participation in living a life of pure religion (James 1.27) is a prerequisite of Christian living (evangeliving).
This exercise of divine power in behalf of Israel was designed also to increase the fear with which they were regarded by the surrounding nations, and thus prepare the way for their easier and complete triumph....
Miracles are a demonstration of power to unbelieving nations to increase faith in Jesus! Remember, miracles abound where there is no faith only to seed and increase the faith of the unbelievers. In our lives let's take the stones of the Jordan river bed with us as "an assurance to Israel (us) of God's continued presence and protection - an evidence that He would work for them through Joshua as He had wrought through Moses...."
