Time for the young people to act

16 Sep 2017 at 04:33hrs | Views
Young Zimbabweans wake up. The Zanu PF regime has been lying for a long time. They talk about the land as if we are the only country with the land. They have talked about sovereignty as if we are the only country with sovereignty. They have castigated the leadership of other countries as if we have the best leadership on earth. They have given us a false hope and we continue living in abject poverty. Our economy is in a mess and deep in the quagmire.

When approaching every election they always fight and make sure that anyone aspiring to challenge Mugabe must face the expulsion. They did that to Ndabaningi Sithole , Edgar Tekere,  Dzikamai Mavjaire ,Joice Mujuru and now Emmérson Mnangagwa.

Every five years we vote and  every five years they steal our election ,every five years they lie saying our lives have been worsened by the British and the Americans , every five years everybody knows that we are now in an election mood by the bombardments of incessant political jingles aired on the state controlled TV.

Every five years they loot, every five years they kill, every five years we endure violence  from the ruling party. Every five years we see the same Presidential candidate contesting the election.

Every five years we suffer the psychological abuse and torture of political activists the likes of Tonderai Ndira and Itai Dzamara. Every five years we are deprived of the right candidates to lead our constituencies and the leaders are imposed on us and our ideas predetermined by them and every five years aspiring candidates visit our respective constituencies promising us dubious income generating projects.

Allow free flow of ideas and see what would be the results. We are living in a global world where we need to share information and interrelate with other countries. Our standards of living are very low and below par. Our road networks are in poor states. Our people are dying in hospitals because of poor drug distribution and poor health care. We are too religious and rather too slow to act and wait for such a time when others have pushed a little bit further. We are very good at crafting sound economic blueprints but they are allowed to gather dust on the shelves.  We have failed to strategically think beyond our capacity and quadruple . Our economy is solely based on bookish than practical. The quality of our lives has been eroded by lack of policy consistency and we have failed to value the power of choice. Japanese economy is based on manufacturing cars and exporting them and their economy is growing every year.

A future economy will be based on agricultural industry and Zimbabwe has vast tracts of land but we have failed to effectively use it yet Japan has mountains with no arable land. We need to change our mindset and that of our leadership which is premised on old model and thrive on poor and ignorant electorate.

Together we can change the political discourse of our country that is if we are really serious about the change. In 1976 I quote Robert Mugabe said " Our votes must go together with our guns. After all, any vote we shall have, shall have been the product of the gun. The gun which produces the vote should remain it's security officer- it's guarantor. The people's votes and the people's guns are always insparable twins"

Well the statement above can  no longer apply today. Let us use our votes to change the political trajectory and move on with economic development without invoking militant strategies. Let's turn those guns into brilliant ideas to work towards building a strong nation , a strong vision and sustainable further development of our cultural heritage and intellectual base of our beautiful Zimbabwe for the benefit of the generations to come.
