Zanu-PF strategy could only mean one thing

28 Mar 2018 at 02:09hrs | Views
The opposition gear is in overdrive yet the ruling party , or should l say the junta is taking a laid back approach to the approaching watershed elections. In all honest this should worry the opposition which means not showing the junta all their capabilities.

In all walks of life the adage ,"experience is the best teacher" suits here to the ruling party .Experience not in doing the best but experience in coming out winners even when odds are stacked against them. In 2008 MDC-T led by the late Dr Morgan Richard Tsvangirai won the elections but results were only released later on as Zanu-PF came with ways of denying MDC-T victory .The next elections were In 2013 and Zanu-PF remained in power, one really wonders how they remain in power with the state of affairs in Zimbabwe.

Zimbabwe once the bread basket I of Africa has become an importer of virtually everything with little if any export earnings. This is all due to their populist policies which while resonating with their rural support base did more harm to the economy. They have come with promises before every election but not a single promise has come to fruition showing all along that it does not care about deteriorating standard of life.Mega deals were published in their "Pravda" style mouthpiece, The Herald.Everything has virtually collapsed but so how do they come out winners? In 2013 a name came out linked to Zanu-PF, an Israel company Nikuv, which helped them secure a non deserving victory further sinking the economy .

Now the junta leader is telling anyone who has keen interest on Zimbabwe that elections will be free and fair. Really? Yes I bet you there won't be violence what with these smart phones all over so they wouldn't want evidence to that effect. This brings into picture the Russians who have shown determined interest for Zimbabwe.

Russia is accused of making Donald Trump win the US elections in which he beat the highly liked Hillary Clinton. How such a buffoon won the elections is a mystery but fingers point at Russian President Vladimir Putin.Russia growing influence can not be ignored away on the global arena especially with Putin in leadership. The Junta has been communicating more since their take over with Russia .

The opposition needs more than their file and ranks but consultants to counter my fear ,the Russian influence. As it is now Special Advisor to ED, Mutsvangwa, accompanied by ZEC chairperson were in Russia recently were Putin "won" overwhelming. This growth in the friendship must have the opposition worried .

Zanu-PF's calm approach must not be viewed in a light context but like my brother who said Zanu-PF is using the Art of War strategies in this regard l tend to believe him. There is an African proverb that says" if a blind man says l will hit you he is stepping on a stone".Such is the calmness of Zanu-PF which can only be taken to mean a calculated move.

MDC-T must not be fooled by numbers at its rallies It is like soccer dribbling counts to nothing if you don't score. Votes will make a difference and it is votes that will remove dictatorship from our midst. The biggest hurdle was Robert Mugabe now the playing field is not yet level because Zanu-PF has state institutions under its control, the Army, ZEC and other security services .

ED just like his Russian counterpart is calm but beneath that calmness is venom.
