Provide affordable houses to the people

06 Sep 2018 at 21:22hrs | Views
Housing stock remains depleted and not significant enough to bring prices down or change the majority of tenants to landlords. The glaring gap provided the window of opportunity for land barons to fleece and swindle the unsuspecting innocent home seekers.

Hundreds if not thousands of people have lost their hard earned cash to bogus real estate agents and fraudulent housing cooperatives with no hope of recovery. Banks on the other side have done little to alleviate the situation by building more affordable houses, they can provide the missing link.

Available mortgage schemes are a pie in the sky for many since most of the home seekers cannot raise the required deposits. In light of the aforementioned government and the private sector must seriously consider providing houses under schemes of zero deposits.

Uptake of the CABS houses in Budiriro was said to be very low even after reducing the required deposit, its because people have no money. Just start collecting rent-to-buy payments and all the housing units will be gone overnight.

Government should get involved in housing matters big time to avoid a slow down and unscrupulous tendencies from those involved. A few years ago many people lost thousands to the government initiated Pay-For-Your-House Scheme that was meant to benefit low earners. Housing tenancy takes away dignity and freedom, provide houses to the people.
