Zanu-PF caught pants down

The Editor,

This talk about an opposition sweep in Zimbabwe is misguided. Let us  not waste time talking about oppression, changing people's votes, killing, closure, arresting, torture, censorship of newspapers, interruption of the means of mass communications, jailing the enlightened and the elite of society for false reasons, and forcing them to make false confessions in jail. Let us talk about the ID (Chitupa) crisis in Zimbabwe.

There is an Identity Card Crisis in Zimbabwe. Conservatively, I will say 60 percent of our youth between the ages of 18 and 25 years do not have an ID card and will not be able to get one before 2023 elections. All this argument by Chamisa saying, "WANGU (Mine) go and register to vote" is stupid and misguided.

If there are opposition political parties in Zimbabwe, then they should help our youth here in Mhandamabwe and throughout the country who are failing to obtain an ID. Failure to help our youth will just fulfill my suspicion that there are not real opposition political parties in Zimbabwe.

The writing is on the wall for all to see. Pick up any state newspaper and what you read is the goal of Zanu-PF is to register 5 million people, really? From 1995 we have been aiming to register 5 million people; honestly? What is the population of Zimbabwe today?

When I walk in my rural areas here in Mhandamambwe, I don't see a negative population growth but a population explosion. How then do we continue to aim only for 5 million voters? Am I missing something? What we want are two things: a census done right now and open access to ID cards for everyone above 18.

Sincerely yours,

Sam Wezhira
