Ruya Dam wall needs completion

30 Sep 2021 at 08:41hrs | Views
Ruya Dam at Chinehasha area of Matepatepa in Chiweshe, Mash. Central, is an awesome water-body with great potential to change livelihoods. Massive Irrigation Projects can be set up with amazing results.

A green belt of horticultural produce and wheat production on either side of the dam can change the picturesquare, provide jobs and uplift living standards. However, the incomplete dam-wall is a cause for great concern.

Although I am not a 'fundi' or 'guru' in civil engineering matters, even a layman can point out where more work needs to be done. The dam wall was left incomplete and by all pointers, may one day give in with dire consequences to settlements downstream.

Villages on the Shores of Ruya River like Chideu, Bruton, Chipa farm going all the way to Karanda Hospital are at crosshairs of potential danger should the dam wall fail to hold one day.

A thought of imagination that can cause hairs to stand on ends, the time to do something about it is now. Maybe authorities could send experts for an inspection-in-loco, assessment and recommendations.

A journey of a thousand miles starts with a step.

Otherwise Ruya Dam is magnificent and ever holding plenty water that can be put to good productive use. On a parting note, may the Irrigation Scheme earmarked for the area be completed please. Our youths are ready to work the land and produce for both homes and country. Let us make Zimbabwe great again.

Mask up and keep social distancing.
