Highlanders; Here I come

28 Jun 2011 at 16:55hrs | Views
There is no secret that we will all be there to witness Highlanders Football Club of Zimbabwe, who are reported to be making travelling arrangements to engage ABSA Premier League team, Bloemfontein Celtic at the Coca Cola Park on the 16th of July 2011. Bosso were hosted in Johannesburg by Jomo Cosmos last year and will be making the visit against a more seasoned team.

While Celtic are in off-season, Amahlolanyama are in hot form, having dispatched Caps United in the BancABC Sup8r Cup. So devastating is their form that United coach offered to leave his job. Caps are said to have accepted the resignation of Moses Chunga with immediate effect.

Meanwhile, the interesting football landscape gripped South Africa with questions over the wisdom or lack of it, by Orlando Pirates leadership. The Bucs won a treble and ended a lengthy Championship drought when coach Rudi Krol finally landed the ABSA Championship. As is the tradition, Krol left after the success as did the last coach to do so before this time.

Roy Barretto was relieved of his duties for winning the title in a boring manner. The same fate befell the coach who won the championship before him. Gordon Igesund was labelled a route one football coach that did not market the Pirates game. Krol left because his contract ran out.

Personally, it takes a good coach to have the guts to leave a good winning team to seek a new challenge. That will tell you what I think of Sir Alex Fuerguson and Jose Mourinho. That is not the point for now. Arsenal are a team that needs to take not only players from Africa, but also just a leaf from Pirates. I guess it will always be a difference between Arsene Wenger and Krol.

The best part of the story is the successor to Krol. My Advanced Level Diploma from Brazil beras the signature of Julio Cesar Leal, new coach of The Happy People. Leal helped Moroka Swallows win a Nedbank Cup trophy after centuries of trying by the Birds. The man is simply smart and astute. There could never be a better man for the job. Happy days Happy People.
