The irony of today is that we can look back and extract from African icons of Independence lessons from their discourse that ring true about us here yet they were talking about colonialists while We are talking about a black so called revolutionary government.
I am just going to do that, my friends, what are we to make of our situation today? Do we have a legacy here of an illustrious revolution that will be ever engraved in our hearts, whose meaning we will proudly explain to our children, so that they in turn might relate to their grandchildren and great-grandchildren the glorious history of our struggle for freedom.
Do we?
We stand where we will ever forget that independence. That very inspired struggle in which we were undaunted by loss or suffering and stinted neither strength nor blood.
It was filled with tears, fire and blood.
We are supposed to be deeply proud of our struggle, because it was just and noble and indispensable in putting an end to the humiliating bondage forced upon us. But now we are in worse bondage and slavery.
We almost forgot the wounds of colonial rule until black misrule was viciously and ruthlessly visited upon us. Our wounds have become fresh and the very sacrifices made by our brothers and sisters and parents to liberate this land laid to stunning waste. The behaviour of this government is an unforgivable desecration of the sacrosanct sacrifice of our heroes.
We are now experiencing unprecedented decay of everything that we fought for, society is totally decimated by a lack of anything and everything even things that are not paid for like Ubuntu.
The basic needs of humanity are not only neglected but this government is on a literal war path against the survival of the people of this land. It is as if their agenda is the extinction of the Zimbabwean people. Everything they say and do is an attack on society, it's institutions, the economy, the infrastructure, the people- really just everything civil.
Food, shelter, health, clean water, sanitation, education and right to life are now the preserve of the elite of this government. These are basic human rights my friends.
Morning, noon and night we were subjected to jeers, insults and blows because we are Zimbabweans. Our very own government is at the war front of annihilating the aspirations of its people.
The very institutions that are supposed to protect us, torture us, the people who are supposed to serve us, persecute us, the government is like a teak drawing blood and life from us.
We have experienced the atrocious sufferings, being persecuted for political convictions and beliefs, and exiled from our native land: our lot is worse than death itself. Our social icons disappear in the hands of this government and the ministers jest about such inhumane occurrences.
That my friends is our lot today and I want to make it clear to you that we are complicit unless we do something about it. Something worse than actually doing something wrong is watching inept while it is being done. The worst sin in our society today is not that of the people persecuting us it is that of those who watch and do nothing about it. That my friends is unforgivable.
At ZEFF WE ARE SAYING NOW IS THE TIME OUR PEOPLE SHOULD STAND UP AND RECLAIM ZIMBABWE. It's future is in our hands. In the hands of its own people.
Brothers, let us commence together a new struggle, a sublime struggle that will lead our country to peace, prosperity and greatness.
Together we shall establish social justice and ensure for every man a fair remuneration for his labour.
We shall show the world what the black man can do when working in liberty, and we shall make Zimbabwe the pride of Africa again.
We shall see to it that the lands of our native country truly benefit its children.
We shall revise all the laws and make them into new ones that will be just and noble.
We shall stop the persecution of free thought. We shall see to it that all citizens enjoy to the fullest extent the basic freedoms provided for by the Charter of Human Rights.
We shall eradicate all discrimination, whatever its origin, and we shall ensure for everyone a station in life befitting his human dignity and worthy of his labour and his loyalty to the country.
We shall institute in the country a peace resting not on guns and bayonets but on concord and goodwill.
I ask you all to sink your tribal quarrels: they weaken us and may cause us to be despised and fail.
I ask you all not to shrink from any sacrifice for the sake of ensuring the success of our grand undertaking.
Finally, I ask you unconditionally to respect the life and property of fellow-citizens and foreigners who have settled in our country; if the conduct of these foreigners leaves much to be desired, our Justice will promptly expel them from the territory of the Zimbabwe, if, on the contrary, their conduct is good, they must be left in peace, for they, too, are working for our country's prosperity.
Let us rise and reclaim Zimbabwe.
