The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) has said it is not registering new eligible voters in areas where there are no upcoming by-elections citing cash constraints.
ZEC made the revelation while responding to a law firm, Dzoro and Partners which sought to register new voters.
The electoral body chairperson Rita Makarau, in a response dated August 17, she said treasury is availing funds to the commission.
"It is ever correct that the Commission is not registering voters in the wards and constituencies where there are no by-elections pending due to financial constraints.
"As soon as our finances permit, we shall register all eligible voters on a continuous bases countrywide".
However, ZEC has been saying registration is an ongoing exercise and encourages new voters to register.
