Siyaya: On the Occassion of winning the NAMAs

22 Feb 2011 at 14:45hrs | Views
Dear All No duty is more urgent than that of returning gratitude, thank you National Arts Council & Zimbabwe for the two NAMA awards. Saturday meant a lot to Siyaya Arts, when we received two awards; Outstanding Male Dancer (Makhula Moyo) and Outstanding Dance Group, at the 10th edition of the National Arts Merit Awards which were held in Harare. The recognition seems to have come as a direct result of our 2009/2010 production, Zambezi Express, which we have taken to many international destinations, receiving numerous accolades, among others the MTMUK Musical Theatre Award for Best Ensemble at the Edinburgh Fringe 2010. The NAMAs represent our first ever recognition in our home country, and that will remain special to our history and future. As we celebrate this achievement, we want to thank all our families, friends, colleagues, artists, supporters, sponsors, festivals, venues, schools, organisations, institutions and all of you who have been part of our lives in one way or the other. From the dusty streets of Makokoba to the tiled pavements of London, the sacred castles in Ghana, the high-life Johannesburg, the greens acres of Aberdeen and to the prestigious locations of Abu Dhabi, thank you for making us who we are. We are Siyaya because of you. We also like to big up all our former artists, both living and departed who have been part of this big Siyaya family. This achievement is dedicated to: [1] Black Umfolosi & Amakhosi Theatre, for paving the way for Bulawayo arts, [2] to all the Bulawayo artists who continue to excel and inspire many, this is the continuation of a revolution, our day will come, and the sun will shine on all of us, and that day is not far from today and: [3] to the audiences spread around the world who continue to consume our work, Thank you for helping us through all the days of our lives. Thank you for being such a good audience, but most of all, thank you for being you. With your support we will never go wrong. Nomakanjani √¢‚Ǩ‚Äú Siyaya.  Saimon Mambazo Phirifor Siyaya
