Trouble in General Chiwenga's backyard?

20 Oct 2020 at 13:53hrs | Views
Marondera town is a constituency by the official name Marondera central constituency with around 40 000 voters and was under MDC MP Caston Matewu before being recalled. So there is a pending by-election for the MP and 5 other wards in the town previously under MDC Councillors before being recalled.

One of our coopted provincial members by the name of Cleopas Kundiona who is vying for the MP seat is using his campaign team of mostly teenagers to create cells in all the 12 wards of the town who he pays from his pocket. Kundiona does not recognise the district authorities in the wards. The youths being used by Kundiona are being thrown out of residents' premises for failure to articulate party programme.

This is real damage to the party. He bought a cartoon of exercise books and pens to issue to those creating cells. It is said at a PCC meeting held here yesterday wanted to have rivals removed from the race by claiming that no former G40 are allowed in the race.

According to our knowledge of the party, constitution cells are created by branches under the supervision of the district executives but it is this provincial member usurping the powers of the party organs to create fake cells to vote for him in the primaries.

Kundiona is a friend to the provincial PC such that all reports about these anomalies are thrown into the bin. Party members are really bitter in this town and the situation will get worse if intervention is not forthcoming soon.

Without exaggerating, the party is burning in this town. Please don't disclose my identity, I'm a senior member of the party in this town I might be charged of jumping the gun/protocols/grievance procedures.

Thank you.
