A Trumpet was made from a Ram's horn and it was used to herald, announce or cause people to gather announce the arrival of the king, there were different ways in which the horn was blown and that would signify the reason of why the people were being called.
The first time the word trumpet is used in the bible "when the trumpet soundeth long, they shall come up to the mount", Exodus 19:13 KJV. The trumpet was also later used to mark the start of a festivals and new moon, it became a huge part of Israelites worship in the wilderness.
In the book of Judges 7 we meet Gideon from the tribe of Manasseh and he is in charge of a 32 000 army which was facing the army of the Midianites who could not even be numbered the bible speaks of them as many as grasshoppers. Those who understand this story this army of Israel which was already small army but was greatly reduced to 300 men.
God had a strategy to fight an army of the Midianites with only 300 worshippers singing to Jehovah with 300 torches, 300 trumpets and 300 jars (pitchers).
Several things that make trumpet worship an effective tool is that at it is blown on blessing God at the same time it would cause the enemy to be destroyed before your feet. From this story they are a lot of qualities that God desires for every worshipper to have in their lives. These men where
• Fighters: these 300 man where already warriors in the army of Israel and they were the wise one who did not have an ounce of fear of anything in their lives. They didn't go home at first and they drank water at the river by lapping of the water with his tongue. Not only were they fighters or warriors but they were also wise and watchful.
• Torch bearers: means that their lives were a burning sacrifice before God. Their lives were on fire for what God was doing and they carried their fire even in the hardest parts and journeys of their lives. Which torch are carrying your own, the devil's or the Lord's torch.
• Trumpet bearers: their lives where not their own, they were set to declare, announce, herald that God is God. They were worshippers who lived to declare the Lordship of Jesus and are used by God to create a platform by which He can reach out to his people and commune with his people.
• Jars or pitchers bearers: they carried the water of God everywhere they went. The water of God is his Spirit, they were carrier and transmitters of the Holy Spirit. The work and battles the face they always allow the spirit of God to direct them and guide them in all that they would do.
With such attitudes and hearts in them "Gideon divided the three hundred men into three companies, and he put a trumpet in every man's hand, with empty pitchers, and lamps within the pitchers", Judges 7:16 KJV. During the night (during the night) as they crushed their jars on the ground, lift their torches, shout unto Jehovah and then blew their trumpet the great army rose from its sleep and started to stab each other to death and a great number of them died and the rest where tracked down and killed.
The trumpets and the lamps alone announce His presence and his kingship, it was Jehovah who did everything, such worship is based upon obedience and faith alone could have induced such an expedient destruction of the army of Midian. Worship is obedience.
What reroutes the enemy, it's not you or your worship, what reroutes the enemy is the one you worship. He is the one that causes it all to work to his design our job is to be obedient to what he desires to do. The blessing of it is the plunder that we collect when the enemy is dead.
It's not your worship that blows away your battles; it's the God you worship.
Blow your trumpets and Worship in the Beauty of His Holiness
Question is: "Is it hard to worship when things are difficult and ugly?"
