The Highlanders Bosso Kingdom deal
The Bulawayo giants have clinched a deal with Kingdom Bank that will see the team get funds from every transaction made by its members who are account holders.
This was revealed by Bosso treasurer Odiel Nkomo at the cash-strapped club's annual general meeting (AGM) held on Sunday.
Nkomo said they had been negotiating with the financial institution for the past three months and the deal had finally come to fruition.
"We have been discussing with Kingdom Bank for three months and we have come up with a scheme and I would like to urge all the club members to join the scheme.
"The coming aboard of Kingdom Bank shows that they have confidence in the club. We have to open bank accounts there," Nkomo said.
Making a presentation at the Highlanders clubhouse on Sunday, an official from the bank said his organisation was proud to be associated with Bosso, a community team, since they were also a community bank.
The coming-in of Kingdom Bank to Highlanders' rescue happened barely a week after Buscod Supermarkets unveiled a US$94 000 one-year sponsorship deal for the financially troubled Bulawayo soccer giants.
Highlanders have been in the red for the last three years, which has seen them failing to pay players and staff salaries with several creditors hovering over them.
At the AGM, Nkomo said Bosso made a loss of US$122 293 in the 2010 season and the club was teetering in a dangerous situation.
This was confirmed by the club auditors, who said there was uncertainty over Bosso's existence.
