Highlanders ended the season on a high note after dismissing already relegated FC Victoria in a Premiership match at Mucheke Stadium on Sunday.
The Bulawayo giants finished on 57 points after managing 10 wins and two draws under caretaker coach Mkhuphali Masuku, who took over from Egyptian Mohammed Fathi. Gunners earned fourth spot on Saturday after thumping another relegated side, Douglas Warriors, 3-0.
After a goalless first half which Highlanders, fielding mostly reserves, dominated, the game burst into life on the hour when Bruce Kangwa capitalised on a defensive blunder by FC Victoria defenders to blast the ball home from close range.
But the hosts drew level five minutes from time from Patrick Tagara's solo effort after he left three Highlanders defenders for dead on the left flank.
Just when FC Victoria thought they would bid the league farewell with a home point, man-of-the-moment Joel Ngodzo had other ideas, rifling home a 23-metre free-kick to give Highlanders maximum points.
