For some time now Harare has been playing second fiddle to Mashonaland West province. The province has gone a gear up in preparation for the National Darts Association Easter tournament 2017 edition to be held in Marondera from the 14-18/4/17 at Marondera high school.
As usual all the provinces will descend on the small town during the Easter holiday for a four day darts event that will involve men, women and youth teams.
Harare has had its trials at the weekend to select the teams that will represent the province in all the four categories. The teams have commenced serious training as it aims to challenge the perennial winners Mashonaland West who have had a long hold at the trophy long enough.
Mashonaland West who are the team to beat are no push overs .The team is led by the mighty David Nyemba who has won all the darts accolades in the country let alone on the Region Five circuit.
The selection process which was held at the weekend saw fierce battle between the players in the fourteen teams in the Harare Darts league. Twenty eight [28] men were selected for the two men teams and ten [10] ladies were selected as well for the two ladies teams.
The selection process saw several senior players falling by the wayside as the raising youths did a good job to outdo their seniors. Several 12 darts games were witnessed as well as a horde of 180s as the players fought for the 28 positions to represent Harare in the National tournament.
The four day event will see the provinces fighting for honours in best province trophy, open singles and doubles, closed singles and doubles. Harare has been dominating in all the events with Mashonaland west coming second.
Midlands province ladies are the only challengers to the mighty Harare ladies who have been dominating the national event for a long time now. They will be led by Cecilia Nzonzo who has seen it all in darts since the colonial era when the game was a white people only game.
