Inaugural Harare Darts Association open - doubles tournament held

Harare-The first edition of the Harare Darts Association Open-Doubles tournament was held in Harare at ZRP Highfields canteen on the 11th of October 2014.
Ninteen pairs of darts players braced the event. Players from other provinces also came to partake in the one day event. Players from Mashonaland Central, Midlands and Social league came to show their prowess but found the going tough in Harare.
The pairs were put in groups of four with the top two teams progressing to the next round. The pair of Chaltone Chikwekwe and Joseph Makava from Mashonaland Central took the Harare boys to task and asking all sorts of questions up to the semi- finals and succumbed to the venomous bite of Shepherd Matete and Shepherd Chirambadare who plays for Aspindale Darts club and Police A respectively.
Chikwekwe is Mashonaland Central Darts Association Chairman, had wanted to take matters into his own hand closed 154 on the day but it was not to be. Not to be out done Mr.Meynard Moyo the National Darts Association President tried his luck with his partner Albert Nyavira and found the going tough and unyielding.
The finals of the event were left to be a duel between the pair of Leo 'chitarafu' Mabharani and Cornelius Chiradza versus Shepherd 'sean timba' Matete and Shepherd 'chidambarare' Chirambadare. The finals were played to the best of seven and did not take long to finish as the pair of Shepherd Matete and Shepherd Chirambadare found the going tough as the Kutsaga Darts club boys cruised to a 4-0 win. The inaugural 2014 edition belongs to the pair of Leo Mabharani and Cornelius Chiradza of Kutsaga Darts club.
Speaking at the event Harare Darts Association Chairman Mr. Elphacy Dube paid tribute to all players who had participated to ensure that darts is put on the spotlight like other sports. He also called on all darts players to work together to promote darts as a sport. He also called in the corporate world to sponsor darts. With the successful hoisting of the doubles tournament Mr. Dube said an Open singles tournament is on the cards.
All the pairs which participated in event did not walk home empty handed but were given darts flights and shafts to go and sharpen their skills. Winners at the tournament walked away with a trophy, medals and prize money.
