A year after celebrating 90 years of sporting excellence aptly referred to as Bosso@90 Highlanders has decided not to lose momentum towards the Bosso@100 Centenary Celebrations by ensuring that merriment takes place on an annual basis until the clock hits 100 and not out!
This year's centenary slogan is Bosso@91 "towards 100 years of sporting excellence".
Club chief executive officer Nhlanhla Dube said as a sporting entity they decided to organise annual celebrations.
"One of the events will take the form of a Celebrations Sports Day that will involve all Highlanders Sporting disciplines. This year's Celebrations Sports Day will be held over the weekend of 1 to 3 September at the Highlanders Sports Complex. This year marks the entry of rugby and men's netball into the tournament and we hope to grow the disciplines as we approach 100 years," said Dube.
He added : "The sports day will feature four major areas of interest, sporting tournaments by all Highlanders sport codes, entertainment and games for the whole family, business and social awareness stalls, sales of Highlanders club memorabilia, traditional dishes, braai and refreshments for the whole family.
"The sporting tournaments will feature special Highlanders Supporters Branches Challenge, Highlanders Legends versus Notwane FC Legends from Botswana, Highlanders Darts Club versus Notwane Darts Club and Highlanders Ladies and Men's Netball teams against their Notwane counterparts. We will also have basketball and volleyball games."
The Bosso head of secretariat also mentioned that they decided to take a holistic approach to ensure that the celebrations leading to Bosso@100 become a conscious strategy to develop the club to be the most enterprising sporting institution in Zimbabwe, if not in Southern Africa, and leaders in all sporting disciplines.
"This year's strategy is designed to bring all Highlanders sport codes together under one goal which is to become a strong marketable brand of successful sports disciplines, encourage the formation and revival of other sports codes and seek to lay a foundation for bringing all members and supporters of Highlanders closer for easier rapport, communications and relationships," said Dube.
