Caps United dismiss $1m Amidu deal claims

CAPS United yesterday dismissed claims Abbas Amidu has been sold for US$1 million saying the player is certain to go but they had not yet finalised on the figures with the club.
Abbas Amidu had about four offers on the table but opted to go to Egyptian side Smouha who are believed to be finalising the details with CAPS United.
"The US$1 million issue is really out of the question because the process is still ongoing. Yes, the player did a farewell for his teammates because it is now certain he is going but we have not finalised on those details with the club," club chief executive Cuthbert Chitima said.
Although the claimed million dollar move is a farfetched figure, what is certain is that the player is going for a less figure than had been offered by other interested clubs.
In an interview with H-Metro, Abbas had indicated that he will not be going to a club that would not guarantee him game time.
That stance could have deprived the club of a better offer at a time when the club is in need of the money.
Chitima insists they had not tried to change Abbas mind to suit their financial demands.
"We cannot do that. We have to respect what the player wants. And we are working on finalising a deal with a club of his choice, that is how we do our business as a club," he said.
With Abbas gone and Ronald Pfumbidzai set for trials in South Africa that could see him move away, CAPS United are in desperate need of replacements.
"After the game against Shabanie tomorrow (today), we will meet the coach and hear what he has to say in terms of replacements. We can only act of recommendations from the coaches," said Chitima.
After losing their last match to How Mine, CAPS United know they must try and win against Shabanie at National Sports Stadium at all costs.
Their participation in the CAF Champions league seems to have taken much out of them and injuries in the team have not spared them.
"Training has been superb. We are ready to face Shabanie. Despite the injuries we can't wait to play on Wednesday. We are hoping for a positive result and hopefully it will come. We have been preparing for this game long enough and a win is all we want," assistant coach Fungai Kwashi told H-Metro this week.
