As Facebook's graphic images policy tightens one wonders how some people from Harare are managing to post graphic images on their Facebook walls. Desmond Chideme aka Stunner, stunned everyone when he appeared in some pornographic material first released by a Harare Tabloid.

On Monday, a pornographic image of a man alleged to be the Harare rapper Desmond Chideme aka Stunner and a woman alleged to be Pokello Nare, the singer's girl friend, was posted on "Pokello's Addicted 2 Shoes" Facebook page.

Stunner went on to brag about the graphic image posted on his girlfriends page saying " Variseiko ma hater macousins a satani? (How are the haters, cousins to Satan), you can't do me nothing, my personal life and my work are two different things."

Although Facebook claims to be a family social networking site, users from the capital have turned it into an adult website.

According to Facebook terms a user "will not post content that: is hateful, threatening, or pornographic; incites violence; or contains nudity or graphic or gratuitous violence."

The man behind the pornographic material's profile

KNOWN simply as 'Stunner' to most of his fans, Desmond Chideme is one of the architects of an urban music revolution in Zimbabwe.

In June, he released the single 'Godo' to universal acclaim and sent expectations for his forthcoming fifth album through the roof. In just over two months of being posted on YouTube, the video has drawn over 20,000 views.

Stunner's profile according to newzimbabwe.com

Name: Desmond Chideme

Born: May 11, 1980

Hometown: Harare

Marital Status & Children: Single father with a daughter named Celeste

How did you end up being known by the rather splendid stage name of 'Stunner'?

To be honest I can't quite remember where I got that from, but I have it and it fits the profile.

How do you describe your music?

That's a very sensitive topic here in Zimbabwe. I am often labelled, as are my peers, an 'Urban Grooves' artist but there is no type of music called 'Urban Grooves'. Yet they recognise the existence of such a genre in Zimbabwe and if I say I am not an Urban Grooves singer I am saying I am not part of everything going on here.

As a rapper, I would want to say my music is hip-hop, but that's not recognised here. So I am an urban singer on the hip-hop side of things.

What inspires you creatively in the process of making music?

I try and deal with my surroundings. I'm an average guy and being an average guy fits everyone else's profile. I sing about my everyday surroundings, which also happens to be space I share with 60 to 70 percent of the population and they can easily identify with what I am singing.

How many albums have you released so far, and what has been the reception like?

I'm working on my fifth project. I have been growing every year and my next album is always bigger than the previous one. My first album was called Hameno, followed by Ka-Life, then Team Hombe and lastly Number One.

Your hit single 'Godo' featuring Ba Shupi was released to a terrific reception in June. In slightly over two months, it has had over 20,000 views on YouTube. Would you say it's your best work yet?

As I said whenever I release new stuff people come up to me and say it's my best yet, so it has been the case with 'Godo'. I'm delighted with the reception of course. To answer your question fully, my favourite song I ever recorded is 'Angandide' which is the first song on my debut album.

Which schools did you go to and what were you like at school?

Prince Edward. I definitely wasn't rapping. I was one of the quiet guys behind everything.

At what stage did you decide to pick up the mic and turn into a full-time musician?

I used to enjoy dancing, that was my first love. I hung around with guys that used to sing and occasionally I would sing with them while doing my dance moves and I would see what the crowd likes. It caught on from there. We are talking about the period around 2001/2002.

How much song writing do you do?

I write all my songs. I try not to say 'I have to write something', I get an ideas then I write.

What's your favourite musical instrument?

I like the bass guitar.

Which Zimbabwean musicians to you look up to?

I have a lot of "used to". Now I would say I am trying to follow my own work. I used to listen to a lot of Leonard Zhakata. He has a lot of content in his music.

Do you remember your first gig?

It was in Mutare and Sanii Makhalima was the main attraction. I sort of gate-crashed the show as a back-up singer for another guy, and it's fair to say I took over. It was pretty cool, no nerves at all. I'm a people person, give me any crowd I can work it!

What other career choices did you consider?

I am a qualified auto mechanic. I also did cutting and designing for clothes part time.

What's the worst job you ever had?

I did that whole video club thing. I walked around with a bag full of cassettes and videos trying to flog them to office workers. We were the guys that the guards would not let into a building: 'no vendors'.

Have you ever attacked by an animal?

I was bitten by a dog once in Glen Norah. It was one of those incidents where you pass a dog and you think it's asleep, not realising you are making a big mistake. I still remember the dog, it was brown. I got to a friend's gate and everything looked innocent until I had the dog tugging at my jeans.

What's your least favourite thing about yourself?

I am hopeless at relationships, it's a problem. You have the media on you, everyone expects you to act in a certain way; be in certain places and yet you want to chill and be yourself. As much as you wanna be yourself, you can't be.

If you were to be 18 again, what would you do differently?

If I had to go back I would not have my daughter, so I would rather be here now than be back then. I have made my mistakes but I'm okay with who I am. I guess somehow somewhere I'm changing people's lives.

What are you most afraid of?

Failure.

If your house caught fire, what prized possessions would you save?

My passport and car keys.

What's your idea of a sexy woman?

Someone who believes in herself and is able to tell me what to do and I actually do it. I want a challenging, strong woman. It would be nice to have someone who is well-built: slim waistline, sexy eyes, and I don't have a problem with light-skinned women.

What's the scariest thing you have ever done?

I have been in a couple of accidents due to speeding a little. I am trying to work on it, I tend to speed a little. It's an addiction.

What was the last book you read?

'Man Cry in the Dark' by Michael Baisden.

Who would you most like to meet – dead or alive?

Definitely I won't see this person alive. I want to see Moses [from the Bible]. He did a lot of stuff, moving those guys from Egypt. Who wouldn't want to see Moses? Moses would be the guy to check out, remember he also received the Ten Commandments.

I also would like to see my girlfriend. We are in separation and she's not talking to me. I'm just hanging in there, hurting.

In your opinion, what's the best song ever recorded?

'When a Man Loves a Woman' by Michael Bolton.

Can you describe yourself in three words?

I only just discovered myself recently, so I can't answer that one competently. Before, I think I was very selfish, but I'm sort of on a different path. I haven't been put to the test yet, but I like to believe I'm now understanding, caring and considerate of other people's feelings.

What would you not travel without?

I never move without my daughter's picture and chain, my bling bling. I have been with this one [chain] ever since, it's seen everything.

If one artist was to perform at your party, who would get the call?

[Chuckles] I think the only way I can guarantee my party is gonna kick is if Stunner is performing. But if I want some laid back music I would look for someone slow, and I can think of Prayer Soul. He does acoustic shows and he's really good.

If you had the power to ban one thing in the world, what would that be?

Smoking. I don't see reason why people smoke. I sort of understand why people smoke weed because they are trying to get high, but smoking in general I don't really get the point. Maybe it's because I don't smoke, but the sight of a beautiful girl lighting up is a turn-off for me. Also, have you noticed the smokers are getting younger and younger?

Which artist has given you the most valuable advice?

Here we are at a stage where everyone is trying to do something. Some of them want to see your downfall, but Andy Brown said a couple of words to me which I greatly appreciate. Of course I have friends in my circle, and we are constantly pushing each other.

If you could be invisible for a day, what would you get up to?

I would try and get a few answers. Imagine you call someone and when they hang up you are wondering what they are gonna say about you to the next person, but then you have this capacity to transport yourself right there that moment? We all need answers, there a lot of things that have not been answered.
