LOOKING for an in-depth source to nurture his poetic talent, Desire Moyo couldn't look any further but trust the renowned South African legendary poet giant Mzwakhe Mbuli to add weight to his profession as a poet after quitting teaching. Since 2014, propelled by fruitful ventures with Mzwakhe Mbuli that have seen Moyo exploring new ground in a bid to live an indelible mark on the international poetic scene, he has never looked back or slowed down in his poetic adventures.
"I met Mzwakhe Mbuli in 2014 in Johannesburg. We had a good time as I fuelled my passion and skill from his poetic reserves. He is an inspirational figure, the trendsetter in the poetic genre that I'm pursuing," said Moyo.
He added that his mentorship from the renowned poet will soon give birth to his debut poetic album set to be launched next year. "Yes, I look forward to sharing a stage with Mzwakhe Mbuli and releasing a duet album with him before the end of 2017," Moyo said. He quit his job as a qualified teacher in 2008 to pursue poetry.
"I had to quit teaching in 2008 not for a hobby but a passion driven trade. For me poetry is business and business is meant to be profitable. Like every other Zimbabwean artist, I'm a struggling one but full of optimism? Since I took up poetry full time, I have rarely slept on an empty stomach. I'm content with the harvest in the poetic field," Moyo said.
He added that he was also inspired by the great Albert Nyathi whom he attributes to being a poetic buoyant point for his career as a poet.
"Albert Nyathi has always remained my hero. Being a fellow citizen, facing the same challenges, I look up to him for inspiration. His determination, diligence and vigilance has been an instructional booklet for me," Moyo said. He is also a Director of Victory Siyanqoba Trust, a theatre arts community based organisation.
"I have been a poet since 1993 when I took up arts at Manama High School and fully explored my poetic prowess in 2010 as `Moy oxide aka Freedom Poet`, a human rights defender in my own right," Moyo said. Like most poets out there, Moyo said poetry to him comes naturally and draws inspiration from the ever dynamic nature of human beings.
"Poetry runs in my blood. I nurtured and cultivated the potential in me. It runs naturally. I have passion for poetry, unlimited faith in it and boundless energy to explore it. My poetry targets human-kind. ''Its relevance is limitless and has no monopoly," said the poet.
