'G40 members on prowl'

SOME members of the dumped Generation 40 (G40) are tactically positioning themselves to weaken and topple President Mnangagwa and the Second Republic, Zanu-PF Politburo member Ziyambi Ziyambi said on Sunday during the Provincial Coordinating Committee (PCC) meeting in Chinhoyi.

Ziyambi, who castigated social media abuses and indiscipline among members, said the party needed to be on guard against remnants from the G40 cabal and the opposition parties that are bent on destabilising the party.

"Money is exchanging hands especially during this era of internal elections.

‘‘We have received a report that the majority of G40-aligned members decided to stay in Zanu-PF and fund provincial members so that those who were dormant take positions and then challenge the President.

‘‘The party needs bona-fide and genuine cadres to be on the lookout and expose these fake people."

Ziyambi, who is also the Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Minister, said he will directly report wayward and undisciplined members to the acting Secretary of Commissariat, Patrick Chinamasa, for abusing the social media to mortify the party's leadership and expose the party's secrets

"Some members take internal issues to their relatives, and these people comment as if they are members of Zanu-PF. When you are analysing me as a member of the Politburo, what l say is a collective position. When you are analysing me as a member of the Cabinet and you criticise my action in Parliament, you are criticising the Cabinet and its head who is the President," Ziyambi said.

The PCC meeting, which was turned into an election directorate through Article 12 of the party's constitution, resolved to postpone internal polls until the finalisation of the ongoing restructuring of districts.

"We can always ask Chinamasa to allow us more time to build our structures which will see us emerging victorious in the 2023 elections.

‘‘There is no harm in suspending and postponing the party elections until there are final logistics in place to avoid any outcries from concerned members," Ziyambi said.

Turning to acceptance and readmitting of members into the party, Ziyambi said the Politburo was the only organ in the party to expel or readmit any party member while acceptance of any opposition party members into the party was done by the district.

The district and provincial coordinating committees only recommend and produce comprehensive reports to the party's national disciplinary committee under the purview of Oppah Muchinguri Kashiri, the party's chairman then the Politburo.

"One person cannot write a letter of expulsion or re-admittance directly to the upper organ without following due process," he added.
